Perhaps you don’t have a lavish guest cottage with a whirlpool tub and butler. All it takes is a few thoughtful gestures to make your guests feel like they are enjoying the good life.
A few extra comforts will make your friends feel welcome. Make the bed with high quality sheets and new pillows. Have extra blankets easily available if needed. Give your guests a luggage rack or clear some space in your closet for their things.
Keep bath towels in view. Don’t make your guests search through your linen closet. Roll and display several in a basket or holiday tin, or leave a stack beside the tub. Remember to include washcloths and hand towels, as well.
Place your toiletries in decorative containers – pull out the cotton swabs and other items your guests may need and put them at arm’s reach.
Treat your guests to fragrance by placing candles on a tray near their bed. Consider leaving flowers on the nightstand or spritz the sheets with a lavender-scented spray.
Provide your guests with tranquil moments by having soft music playing, or if you prefer, drown out the sounds of holiday hustle and bustle with relaxing “white” noise with a sound machine. Your guests can sleep in peace to drizzling rain, chirping crickets, or ocean waves, to name just a few.
Make available easily forgotten items such as combs, toothbrushes and razors.
Treat your guests to signature shampoos and lotions.
Offer good, short reading. Place a collection of magazines, short stories, devotions, or poetry near the bed.
Nothing makes guests feel more special than a gift basket awaiting their arrival. Fill it with their favorite candies, holiday cookies, scented candles, chewing gum, reading material, bath salts — everything you think would be meaningful to them. Make sure you choose a beautiful basket they can keep so they can hold on to the memories of your kindness long after the cookies have been eaten. |
