Give a boost to summer’s lighthearted mood with these fresh as a daisy summer décor ideas!
Change with the seasons
The air is warm, the sunlight bright, and the season just perfect to lighten up your home. Stash away those throws and heavy fabric pillows. Pull the outside in with wicker furniture and white canvas slipcovers. Banish jewel-tone decorations, fringe, and feathers until fall's crisp air invites them home again. Pull up rugs and uncover those hardwood floors. Think cool and calm! And don't forget the fresh flowers: If nothing else, the scent alone will herald summer into your home.
Paint to impress
Paint gives the most bang for the buck. For just a few dollars, you can change the whole look of a room. Be bold, be daring — don't choose white! Choose a color with with two or more tonal shades. For example, a blend of “a taupe-y tan and olive” would result in a complex, rich neutral shade that can provide drama and warmth to tall ceilings in an otherwise dull room. A beautiful color on the walls can move a room from “nice” to “wow” in just a few hours. This season’s popular tints — kiwi green, lavender, orchid, aquas, sea blue, and pale yellow — can be incorporated without a huge commitment by painting a piece of furniture that needs a boost. The result will be one corner that is a bit brighter for the effort.
Make it personal
Judiciously adding in hints to your personality or favorite hobbies can liven up living areas. But don’t go over board: Choose only your favorite collections or family photos, and then, place them in season friendly containers, such as shells, baskets, wooden frames, clear glass bowls, etc. They key is displaying items in interesting vignettes, not overloading your sideboard with all of your favorite things. Consider changing out, for example, your spoon, shell or button collections, rotating them as a museum would. After all, this is your personal art! Share it with your guests, but don’t overwhelm.
Clutter-free zone
The simplest and most effective change you can make this summer is decluttering: Invest in clear plastic tubs and sock away all the “extras” that seem to have accumulated over the spring months. Take one Saturday to declutter: Turn on your favorite music, gather up items for charity, then relax on the porch with a glass of cold lemonade and enjoy your summer-style home!
